ALBUM REVIEW: A Debut Album To Look Forward To (Black Lakes)

I am writing my first entry for this zine, which is also my first album review, and it is for the debut album of the Welsh band Black Lakes. I couldn’t be more honoured than to start my first journalistic entry and the new year with such a solid debut album. To me, For All We Left Behind has a lot of influence from different genres, some songs reminiscent of bands like Of Mice & Men, but still managing to create a unique sound, which for me will definitely be a contender for album of the year– and it’s only February! Genre is never clear cut and I’ve always had trouble placing bands/songs into a genre, but Black Lakes mix their sounds between hard rock and alternative metal, and this album also has a grungy feel to it in my opinion. It’s about hardships we all faced these past two years, but it’s also about hope for the future to be better. With fast-paced songs that will definitely be great to experience live and some songs with hauntingly beautiful melodies that tug at your heartstrings, Black Lakes created a solid debut album that’s been on repeat for me and I can’t wait for the world to hear it. This debut album has been recorded in Cardiff with famous producer Romesh Dodaganda. The band successfully completed a GoFundMe campaign to make this album which will be released on the 22nd of February. You can watch the music video for two of my favourite songs from this album below. Also down below you can check out the track list and see what to expect from this album.
