INTERVIEW: A Chat with Chad Douglas-- The New Voice of Perspectives

Writer's picture: Anna OggierAnna Oggier

What do A Greater Danger and Perspectives have in common? Both projects share core values in community building along with having emotional high energy music. In certain respects, they both share a degree of mental health awareness as well, which is something I’m a very large proponent for. They also both feature the talented vocalist, Chad Douglas! I got to talk to him about music and what got him into performing as well as many other questions.

What got you started in music?

I’ve always said that the gift I was given was a passion for music. I grew up in a musical household which certainly influenced me as well. As a young kid, I had a lovely woman from the church I went to give me some lessons on how to sing before I could even read properly.

Is there someone or something that made you want to be in a band or create one?

While I always wanted to do something with music, I was greatly inspired along the way by a lot of different bands to solidify my determination to begin creating. The big one was probably seeing Blessthefall when I was around 16 or so. Seeing the energy and the passion that the band had, that they were able to bring out of the audience was a life-changing experience. I knew I was meant to somehow do the same.

How did you become the newest member of Perspectives and how can one manage two projects at the same time, like in your case A Greater Danger?

A few months back I caught word that Perspectives was looking around for a new singer. I got talking with the guitarist in A Greater Danger (Fred) and he encouraged me to reach out considering he had known Jordan for years and knew he was a good dude. Originally I just offered to do a feature for them to assist in their sonic change while finding a singer but the more we talked the more we clicked. I sent over a few demos to them of me writing to the new song “Blood & Stone” and it just made sense for me to step into the role as a singer given my skill set and experience.

As far as balancing the two projects, it’s definitely a little tricky but I have a lot of support from the boys in Perspectives to keep a focus on A Greater Danger which is a very encouraging thing for me. Ultimately I try to carve out time for what’s needed in both projects and try to approach things from an efficient mindset so both projects can take meaningful steps forward.

What is your favorite part about performing on stage and touring?

The connection to the people honestly. Especially those we go in thinking they won’t be interested in the bands or are just waiting for the next band up. There’s something so powerful about looking another person in the eye and expressing a deep sorrow or rage or introspective thought and seeing your vulnerability touch them and draw an emotion out of them. It’s like a feedback loop, where both myself and the audience just allow each other to feel what we may have kept buried for a long time.

Where can people/readers find your music?

All the usual places, Spotify, YouTube, Apple. Plus, A Greater Danger has its own website that we’re updating: agreaterdanger.com

So definitely check that out!

Any last words?

Just wanted to say thanks to you for the interview and also to the Perspectives community for being welcoming to me as I’ve come into the project.
