I have said this multiple times, but I have yet to have a song that begins with feedback fail me. If a song begins with any sort of feedback, be it amp, radio, etc., it is already destined to be a banger. The most common DIY punk way of foreshadowing a single becoming solid hit. Another way to tell if a song will become a banger is with the tapping of drumsticks before slamming into the actual melody. “Talkin’ 2 You” starts with the tapping of drumsticks over amp feedback, offering not one, but both telltale signs that the track you are listening to will be on repeat all week long. My only complaint? The track was just too short. Clocking in at under a minute and a half, “Talkin’ 2 You” brings a fast-paced high-energy vibe. Like, being strapped into the Rockin’ Rollercoaster at Disney World’s Hollywood Studio kind of vibe. A melody that takes you rapidly from zero to 60, taking you through twists, turns, and full-on loops before halting to a stop. By the end of this track, the listener is almost guaranteed to feel whiplash before rushing to join the line again.
Weirdly, the melody reminds me of the biker bar scene from Disney Channel’s Original Movie, Teen Beach Movie. Perhaps the biker energy comes from the absolute punk vibrations, or maybe the riffs at the beginning brought the choreography to “Cruisin’ For a Brusin’” in mind. Whatever the case, I definitely was not expecting it, yet am absolutely thrilled to have heard such. Norelle Green’s vocals start smooth yet surprise you with a gut punch to the soul. The kind of gut-punch you’d expect from bands such as The Wonder Years. While this is a short track, it has the power to rev up a festival size crowd. As I listened I found it impossible to not move. It was literally impossible. Either my hips were shaking, my head was banging, my arm was fist-pumping, or all of the above. I suggest you put “Talkin’ 2 You” to the test and give it a listen, if you say you didn’t groove then you are definitely lying. You can stream “Talkin’ 2 You” on all streaming platforms.
